Job Overview :

The barista is the cornerstone of the customer experience at Wake Coffee. They are responsible for expertly preparing and serving a variety of espresso-based drinks and brewed coffees while maintaining a deep knowledge of specialty coffee. Baristas also engage with customers, providing a welcoming atmosphere, and educating them about our coffee offerings.

Key Responsibilities :

Coffee Preparation :

• Craft espresso-based drinks like lattes, cappuccinos, cortados, and flat whites with precision and consistency.
• Brew drip coffee and assist with other manual brewing methods if applicable.
• Dial in espresso machines daily to ensure perfect extraction.
• Maintain a strong understanding of different coffee beans, origins, roast levels, and flavor profiles to discuss with customers.

Customer Service :

• Greet customers warmly, take orders, and offer personalized recommendations.
• Educate customers on our coffee offerings and brewing methods, ensuring they feel welcome to ask questions.
• Provide excellent service during peak times while keeping quality and efficiency in check.

Operations and Cleanliness :

• Clean and maintain coffee equipment, including grinders, espresso machines, and drip coffee brewers.
• Keep the bar area clean and organized throughout the shift.
• Follow health and safety guidelines to ensure all drinks are prepared in a sanitary environment.

Inventory Management :

• Monitor levels of coffee beans, milk, syrups, and other ingredients, informing the manager when supplies are running low.
• Assist in receiving and organizing inventory.

Collaboration :

• Work closely with the barback/cashier and other team members to ensure smooth operations and efficiency.
• Support training new team members when needed, ensuring they meet our quality standards.

Requirements :

Passion for Coffee :

• A strong passion for coffee and a deep interest in learning about coffee beans, brewing methods, and trends in the coffee industry.
• Prior experience as a barista in a specialty coffee shop is a plus but not required.

Attention to Detail :

• Ability to dial in espresso, steam milk to the correct texture, and consistently produce high-quality drinks.
• Must maintain a high standard of cleanliness and organization at all times.

Customer Service Skills :

• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to engage and educate customers in a friendly, professional manner.
• Ability to handle difficult customer situations with grace and maintain a positive attitude during peak hours.

Efficiency and Time Management :

• Ability to work quickly and efficiently in a fast-paced environment without compromising the quality of drinks.
• Capable of managing multiple orders simultaneously while maintaining focus on delivering a great customer experience.

Team Player :

• Comfortable working in a team-oriented environment, supporting fellow baristas, the cashier, and management.
• A cooperative attitude with the ability to assist in areas beyond drink preparation, like cleaning, stocking, and customer interactions.

Qualifications :

• Previous barista experience in a specialty coffee shop or similar environment is preferred but not required.
• Familiarity with specialty coffee equipment (espresso machines, grinders) and techniques is a plus.
• Strong interest in coffee education and continuous learning about coffee culture.
• Flexibility in scheduling, including weekends and holidays.

Physical Requirements :

• Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
• Capability to lift up to 25 pounds (moving bags of coffee, milk crates, etc.).
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment that requires focus and efficiency.
