Public School Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in Newport News, VA Step into a nursing role within Newport News school system where you play a hands-on role while making a difference in children’s lives every day! Shift time required- School hours! MUST be available between 8:00 am and 3:15 pm. This position will be at an elementary schools within the Newport News School district. Our Licensed Practical Nurses enjoy some notable benefits:

As a Licensed Practical Nurse, here’s a big-picture view of what you’ll do:

• Care for patients with a variety of illnesses, injuries and diseases in clinics under the supervision of an RN
• Work with a team of LPN, and RN to take care of the everyday clinical needs of the children
• Assist RN school nurse with documentation of clinics intake
• Administer medication when needed
• Observes students for illness or injury, consults with the registered nurse as needed, and advises on dismissal.
• Adheres to laws, rules, and regulations governing LPN practice.
• Utilizes the nursing components of the ESIS computer system
• Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.

A few must-haves for Licensed Practical Nurses:

• CPR certification
• Must be a licensed practical nurse (LPN) licensed to practice in the State of Virginia and certified by the Virginia Board of Nursing
• Displays thorough knowledge of nursing procedures as defined by score of practice
• A minimum of 6 months of experience working as an LPN with pediatrics and a passion for working with children.
• Experience in acute care setting with well-developed assessment skills desirable.
• Valid Virginia Drivers’ License required.
