Job Description You will be working alongside a passionate R&D team, focused on adding high value to the nutrient upcycling of organic waste. Nutritionist role for the BSF (Black Soldier Fly) Technology Center (BTC) will be responsible for establishing and optimizing nutritional aspects of feedstock preparation, biological performance, and final product parameters to maximize commercial outcomes using best research and development practices. This position will execute experimental trials from lab, pilot and production scale and requires collaboration with external and internal partners.
Essential Functions •Responsible for advancing PreZero's knowledge and insights of waste feedstock nutrition, and how this translates into final product quality and technical product claims for commercial outcomes.
•Blended role which will require the person to direct and execute experimental trials at different scales from lab, pilot, and production scale to ensure product performance standards are achieved.
•Ability to translate nutritional product parameters into technical claims and stories which will involve collaboration with sales and commercial organizations to support animal feed applications (e.g. pet food, aquaculture, poultry, and swine).
•Optimize nutritional benefits to maximize commercial outcomes and therefore the candidate will need to be a highly capable experimentalist in Nutrition as well as being able to work with internal and external partners.
•Responsible for nutritional aspects of all processes and procedures to ensure products meet regulatory and product performance standards as agreed with internal and external customers.
•Deliver nutritional improvements through the entire organics value chain by working collaboratively with other functions with the end goal of delivering products that customers recognize as high quality which can be leveraged as a selling point by the sales organization.
•Working closely with waste sourcing team to identify valuable feedstocks according to business objectives and in a dynamic operations environment.
•Optimize available factory feedstock mixtures and collaborate with factory team to measure efficiencies to accomplish bioconversion target and on-time harvestability.
•Responsible for waste to substrate transition to validate feed specifications and connect the link between substrate, harvestability, larvae growth and final products' quality parameters.
•Working with various teams to build databases for nutrients quality of available feedstocks and utilize them to maximize production efficiencies and feedback potential improvements to sourcing and factory teams.
•Establishing the optimum nutrient formulation with various waste sources to support the excellence in the black soldier fly biology process as well as identifying the most efficient feedstocks to reliably produce substrate within technical specifications.
•Managing multiple research projects and day-to-day activities with different stakeholders from waste sourcing, substrate preparation and larvae processing.
•Developing nutritional claims to gain competitive advantage for insect products including protein meal, oil and frass for animal feed applications.
•Identifying external partnerships that can accelerate PreZero's technical understanding. Also, broad, and effective network within industry bodies and regulators to ensure products are achieving high nutritional quality for use in target applications as defined by sales organization.
•Capability to develop rapid nutritional test methods that can be used to ensure quality is managed both costs effectively and in real-time on the factory floor.
•Lead and mentor junior researchers/interns for different projects.
•Identifying and proposing facility improvements with capability upgrades what would increase efficiency or speed of execution.
•Presenting key learnings and project outcomes to senior management as required
•Execute research projects in accordance with objectives of black soldier fly project.
•Use experimental design methodologies to increase understanding and interpretation of nutritional data.
•Lead and execute lab & pilot scale nutrition trials with various waste categories.
•Capturing high quality data, creating SOPs, recording, data analysis and reporting for different stakeholders
•Build technical skills and expertise in Nutrition Science and internal feed formulations.
•Supervise junior staff and operators in experimental works and general laboratory etiquette.
•Advice subordinates on experimental design, data analysis and report writing.
•Expected to work hands-on with operations team to ensure production systems meets nutritional requirements and execute trials to produce real results.
•Ability to travel with sales team as required to support product technical claims and customer development.

Requirements
•BSc/MSc in related science field e.g., Animal Nutrition, Animal Science, Nutritional Science, Food Science, Food Technology, Food Engineering, Aquaculture Nutrition.
•2+ years of experience in feed and/or food and/or nutrition industry.
•Relevant experience of animal nutrition applications.
•R&D and product development and/or ingredient experience from pet food and/or aquaculture and/or poultry and/or swine industry.
•Experience with application of insect products for animal feed preferred.
•Training or education in statistics and/or lean six sigma.
•Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
Competencies •Good verbal and written communication skills.
•Detailed oriented with strong time management skills.
•Knowledge about quality management systems for feed ingredients is an advantage.
•Experience with Minitab and SAP Business One is an advantage, but not a requirement.
•Able to work collaboratively with external partners (research institutes, academia, and feed companies)
•Excellent knowledge in Nutrition that can support sales and business development using knowledge of nutrition to create fantastic product technical claims.
Salary Description
