About Destination DC: Destination DC, the lead destination marketing organization for the nation's capital, is a private, non-profit membership organization of nearly 1,000 businesses committed to marketing the area as a premier global convention, tourism and special events destination with a special emphasis on the arts, cultural and historic communities. We are seeking you to assist the organization's Tourism, Sports and Visitor Experience Department.
Internship Summary Reports to: Associate Director, Visitor Experience, and Group Tour
About the Tourism, Sports, & Visitor Experience Department: The role of Tourism, Sports and Visitor Experiences is to maximize annual visitations for all domestic and international leisure visitors for year-round, overnight stays with an emphasis on strengthening travel during weekend and off-peak periods. Efforts include attracting international and domestic groups and individual travel for all vacation travel, sporting events, education group travel, adult group tour and special event programs that drive overnight bookings to Washington, DC.
Your Essential Duties and Responsibilities (include the following, but are not limited): - Assist with Visitor Services inquiries, brochure orders and distribution.
- Assist with research and analysis towards Accessibility initiatives.
- Update and maintain the tourism department database.
- Assist department with group tour social media.
- Assist in planning and participating in familiarization (FAM) tours.
- Update and maintain the tourism department database.
- Assist department with group tour social media.
- Assist with development of luxury product.
- Additional projects as assigned.
What You Bring: Knowledge, Competencies, Skills: - Must be junior or senior year college students in good standing.
- Hospitality, Travel & Tourism, Marketing, and Event Planning majors strongly preferred.
- Strong written and oral communication skills required.
- Superior organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Social media experience a plus.
- Experience research and findings analysis.
- Previous internship experience a plus.
Duration and Other Requirements: - Commitment of one semester is required. The internship may be extended to the next semester at the agreement of the student and supervisor.
- Must be able to commit at least 20 hours per week to the position.
- Hours worked must be within the parameters of Monday-Friday, 8:30am-5pm EST to coincide with the operational hours of the office.
- Must have access to reliable computer and internet as position is hybrid and may require remote work.
