Position: Volunteer Engagement & Partnerships Manager (NYC)

Position Summary: The Volunteer Engagement & Partnerships Manager is a vital role at the Campaign for Working Families (CWF) dedicated to recruiting, training, and managing a diverse team of volunteers to support CWF's tax preparation and financial literacy programs. This position will focus on building strong relationships with community partners, businesses, and other stakeholders to enhance volunteer engagement and program impact. The manager will develop and implement strategies for volunteer recruitment, retention, and recognition, ensuring a positive and rewarding experience for all volunteers. Additionally, the manager will collaborate with community organizations to identify partnership opportunities, leverage resources, and promote CWF's missions. The Volunteer Engagement & Partnerships Manager will have a background in volunteer management, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and a passion for community service. This role requires a proactive and organized individual who can work effectively with diverse populations and drive initiatives to strengthen community involvement and support.

Roles & Responsibilities:

Relationship Management:

  • Establish volunteer recruitment program, including individuals and corporate partnerships.
  • Oversee management of volunteer program, with a particular focus on developing stronger relationships with individual volunteers and continuing to steward new and strengthened relationships with corporate volunteer groups.
  • Lead volunteer facility tours, orientations, and trainings.
  • Manage and coordinate corporate volunteer events.
  • Plan/host volunteer recognition events.
  • Support the development processes and operations to support the facilitation of community partnerships with external organizations.
  • Help develop a pipeline of donors through volunteer engagement.

Project Management:

  • Support in the development of tax programming and other experiential learning opportunities for volunteers and CWF clients.
  • Coordinate with key CWF staff and external partners.
  • Utilize volunteer database for volunteer organization, scheduling, and tracking service hours.
  • Assist tax sites efficiency and effectiveness of volunteers, while monitoring/improving quality assurance and compliance in accordance with IRS regulations.
  • Submit volunteer reports and data to IRS and CWF management team.
  • Manage volunteer communications, including email, texts, phone calls, and newsletter communications.
  • Support the recruitment of tax staff and provide training and guidance as needed to ensure their success.
  • As requested, represent CWF at events and motivate staff, volunteers, partners, and potential partners to understand CWF's mission and goals.
  • Manage volunteer calendar and update all relevant teams to any changes.
  • Participate in strategic planning along with other CWF leaders to ensure the direction of the organization is positioned to achieve its goals and objectives.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned in alignment with CWF's mission.

Tax Compliance and Quality Control:

  • Maintain accurate records of volunteer certifications and volunteer hours.
  • Cross train volunteers to support all aspects of the tax preparation process.
  • Implement activities that drive volunteer retention and satisfaction to ensure future volunteer availability and ongoing support at the tax site.
  • Modify and update the volunteer handbook as needed, and track all signed waivers.
  • Volunteer and program reporting

Customer Service:

  • Create a welcoming atmosphere for tax volunteers, partners, and staff.
  • Serve as the central point of contact for all customer service needs and/or inquiries for volunteers.

Competencies, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Complete all training and certification requirements. Pass the IRS Advanced Tax Preparer certification exam.
  • Basic computer skills for inputting tax return information into tax software (TaxSlayer).
  • Ability to manage all-volunteer staff.
  • Management experience
  • Outstanding verbal, written, and online communication skills.
  • Spanish-speaking highly preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage time efficiently and meet deadlines.
  • Outstanding integrity, positive attitude, and self-direction.
  • Ability to generate innovative ideas an effectively communicate them verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to comprehend system wide strategy/vision and communicate it to stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to move ideas and vision to implementation successfully.
  • Ability to travel to various locations throughout New York City.
  • Sensitivity to the financial experiences and diverse cultural backgrounds of CWF clients.
  • Experience working with and managing volunteers.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Flexibility to work evenings/weekends.
  • Tax preparation experience.

Qualifications (Education and Experience)

Education : Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience : Minimum two years of volunteer coordination experience or equivalent professional experience

Special Requirements : Experience with tax preparation and the IRS VITA program is a plus.
